Apple is reportedly stepping up their development of foldable screens, as revealed by the latest investor reports.
Quoting information from 9to5Mac on Tuesday (7/5/2024), analyst Jeff Pu from Haitong International Securities mentioned that Apple plans to commence mass production of a 20.3-inch foldable device by the end of 2025. Then, by the end of 2026, the company will do the same for a foldable iPhone.
If this analysis is accurate, Apple has likely accelerated the development of its foldable devices. The report also suggests that this is being done due to the company seeing greater visibility in terms of the supply chain.
The reason being, based on earlier predictions by Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple itself is developing a 20.3-inch foldable MacBook targeted for release in 2027. Similar sentiments were also expressed by Ross Young.
However, with Jeff’s latest analysis, there’s a possibility that these plans might be ahead of schedule.
According to Jeff, these iPhone foldable devices will be the company’s latest product line. The devices will target the ultra high-end market. Reportedly, the Cupertino-based company is exploring two screen size options for the foldable iPhone: 7.9 inches and 8.3 inches.
For reference, Apple is currently known to be a mobile device brand that has been hesitant to enter the foldable smartphone market. Despite numerous rumors over the past three years, Apple has yet to introduce their first line of foldable phones.
Will iPhone Foldable released in 2026? Is it true?
Just to let you know, as of now, the Cupertino-based company is still unwilling to disclose anything regarding the foldable phone. However, that seems to be changing. Quoting GSM Arena on Monday (5/2/2024), the years 2026 or 2027 will mark the launch of iPhone foldable phone.
This information was revealed by an anonymous source in Korea. It’s mentioned that the Apple phone will have a main screen size of 7 inches or 8 inches. With this size, the Apple phone has the potential to replace the iPad mini line in the market in the coming years.
Unfortunately, the specifications and form of this new Apple phone have not been disclosed yet. Rumors suggest that both Samsung Display and LG Display have provided samples of foldable screen panels in sizes of 6 inches and 7 inches.
If Apple does decide to introduce a iPhone foldable, the company is likely to use panels from Samsung Display.
This is based on Samsung Display’s experience as the main supplier of foldable phones for Samsung, such as the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold. With this in mind, it’s not unlikely that the company founded by Steve Jobs will expand its foldable product line if their phones succeed in the market.
So, don’t be surprised if in 2028 Apple launches a foldable product with a screen size of 20.25 inches in the market.
