The prestigious international esports tournament, World Cyber Games (WCG) 2024, is set to return this year. World Cyber Games, the largest international esports tournament held since 2001, originally initiated by the South Korean company Samsung, has reached 111 countries, featured 76 games, and engaged 1.5 million gamers worldwide from 2001 until 2023.

Over the span of 22 years until 2023, 13 cities across 6 countries have hosted WCG events, including South Korea, China, the United States, Singapore, Italy, and Germany. Last year, WCG 2023 took place in the city of Busan, South Korea, which had previously hosted the event as well.

This year, World Cyber Games 2024 introduces various new programs and offers a larger total prize pool. The esports company, Bigpicture Interactive, now known as ‘Bigpicture’, has set the theme for the WCG 2024 event as ‘Global’, ‘Influencer’, and ‘Content’.

Under the leadership of CEO Song Kwang Jun, Bigpicture has also announced its plans to showcase a diverse range of content tailored for leading influencers and gamers worldwide participating in the World Cyber Games 2024 tournament.

WCG 2024 will introduce new tournament categories, including ‘WCG Challenge’, ‘WCG Rivals’, and ‘WCG Festival’. The ‘WCG Challenge’ is an esports tournament held across multiple countries aimed at discovering the best influencers to represent their respective nations. It will feature top influencers from each country with the highest number of followers.

The total prize pool for the ‘WCG Challenge’ amounts to USD 100,000 or approximately Rp 1.5 billion. The ‘WCG Challenge’ will take place from March to June 2024, featuring various game titles across different countries worldwide. The challenges themselves will be tailored to fit the gaming culture and influencer trends in each country.

Following this, the top influencers representing their respective countries will advance. Meanwhile, the total prize pool for the ‘WCG Rivals’ amounts to USD 120,000 or around Rp 1.8 billion.

The chosen influencers representing their countries in the ‘WCG Challenge’ will then compete in the ‘WCG Rivals’, scheduled from June to August 2024. ‘WCG Rivals’ will not only feature competition among participants but also their activities during the quarantine period to prepare for the tournament, including training and more.

On the other hand, ‘WCG Festival’ is an offline event where influencers gather to present diverse and engaging content. The WCG 2024 Festival will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, at ICE BSD from August 31st to September 1st, 2024.
