Too Old, iPhone 5S Won't Receive Repairs

Apple has officially announced that the iPhone 5S has reached the status of being obsolete, marking the end of an era for the device introduced in September 2013. This decision signifies the conclusion of official support from Apple and authorized service providers for repair or service for the iPhone 5S.

As reported by Tech Radar on Tuesday (4/6/2024), the announcement regarding the status of the iPhone 5S came from Apple’s official support page for products that have aged. Products categorized as obsolete are those that have been absent from Apple sales for seven years or more.

In their announcement, Apple explained that they have ceased all hardware services for obsolete products, and service providers can no longer order spare parts for devices included in that category.

Nevertheless, the iPhone 5S played a significant role in the evolution of smartphone technology. As the device that introduced the first-ever 64-bit processor (A7), the iPhone 5S marked a significant leap forward in the industry. Additionally, the device also introduced the Touch ID fingerprint authentication feature, which later became a standard in many smartphones.

However, with its now obsolete status, owners of the iPhone 5S should consider upgrading to newer models to ensure an optimal user experience. Nevertheless, this decision can be influenced by several factors, including budget and individual user needs.

Not only the iPhone 5S, but Apple has also classified the sixth-generation iPod Touch (2015) and the 12.5-inch iMac with a 4K display (2015) into the vintage product category.

Vintage products are those that have not been sold by Apple for more than five years, marking their journey from beloved products to collectibles for technology enthusiasts. Although no longer officially supported by Apple, these products still hold a special place in the company’s history and the technology industry as a whole.
