AMD FSR 3.1 Introduced, Will Have Advanced Features

AMD’s promise regarding significant advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) didn’t take long to materialize. In a surprising announcement, AMD unveiled the latest iteration of its FidelityFX Super Resolution technology: FSR 3.1. Showcasing substantial improvements in image quality and beyond, this is an exciting development.

The announcement of AMD FSR 3.1 isn’t merely about incremental enhancements to the supersampling algorithm of the technology. AMD has also added its own version of Nvidia’s DLAA anti-aliasing solution, as well as decoupled the upscaling feature of FSR from its frame creation capabilities.

Overall, AMD FSR 3.1 delivers improvements in the following areas of image rendering:

  • Reduced ghosting and better detail preservation.
  • FSR 3.1 frame creation now works with other upscaling solutions, such as Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS.

AMD has also released a new AMD FidelityFX API, which should make it easier for game developers to debug and ensure forward compatibility with the latest versions of FSR. Additionally, FSR 3.1 will be available for further integration into Vulkan and Xbox GDK later this year, significantly bolstering the practical scope of these features.
