Apple introduced iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2024 on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. During the event, Apple announced a collaboration with OpenAI to integrate artificial intelligence technology, Apple Intelligence, into iPhones and other devices.
Many have wondered about the costs involved in this collaboration. The answer is quite surprising: there are no costs involved at all. According to Bloomberg’s report on Thursday, June 13, 2024, there were no payments exchanged between the two companies in this partnership. Apple did not pay OpenAI, and conversely, OpenAI did not receive any payments from Apple.
Belief in the Impact of Apple Intelligence
Apple believes that showcasing their technology to hundreds of millions of users is more valuable than monetary payments. As a result, Apple device users can enjoy all ChatGPT OpenAI features without logging in or paying a cent, while general users typically need to log in or pay to access unlimited ChatGPT features. Although Apple has not disclosed further details about the future of this AI partnership, there are reports that they are in talks with Google to integrate Gemini technology into iOS. This integration is expected to occur as soon as the end of this year.
In addition to the iPhones mentioned, here is a list of iPads and Macs that can use Apple Intelligence features:
