YouTube has confirmed its foray into gaming services with the introduction of Playables. As the name suggests, this feature transforms YouTube into not just a destination for watching videos but also for playing games.
Quoting information from The Verge on Thursday (5/30/2024), the Playables service is available for free to YouTube users. To access it, users can visit the website or use the Android and iOS apps.
There are 75 games available in this service, including popular titles from various genres such as Angry Birds Showdown!, Trivia Crack, and Cut the Rope. What’s interesting is that this service doesn’t need to be accessed from a separate app. Users can simply find Playables in the YouTube sidebar and start playing the desired game.
YouTube ensures that this service includes a game progress storage feature, allowing players to continue their games from anywhere and anytime. This isn’t the first time YouTube has ventured into the gaming world. Last year, Google’s app offered Playables for YouTube Premium subscribers, but the number of games was limited with limited time.
However, Playables now offers more games and can be enjoyed by users for free. For now, YouTube Playables are being rolled out gradually in some countries, and not all users can access it immediately. Nevertheless, this platform assures that this service will be available to more users in the coming months.
It’s worth noting that gaming has become a popular way for tech companies to attract or retain users. One of the companies that has done this is LinkedIn. Additionally, Netflix now has its own gaming service as well.
Not Just Games, YouTube Also Uses AI
On the other hand, this platform has previously been reported to be developing several new AI features to enhance its platform. Many of these features are still in the experimental stage. Recently, the Google subsidiary conducted testing on its latest AI feature to provide fresh ideas for creators regarding the content they will produce.
On this platform support page, as quoted from Android Authority on Sunday (5/5/2024), the company announced that they are testing a generative AI feature that can provide inspiration for content creators for their upcoming videos.
