With comprehensive information and in-depth analysis, this article will help you determine whether the Lenovo Legion Tower 7i is the right choice in 2024. Here’s the full review!

1. Having an Attractive and Sturdy Design

The Legion Tower 7i, or more precisely known as the Lenovo Legion T7 34IMZ5, presents a minimalist yet sturdy casing design, weighing around 12.5 kg. Its design features a striking blue Lenovo Legion logo when viewed from the front. As a gaming PC, the Tower 7i comes equipped with a variety of useful I/O ports.

The top of the casing is adorned with 4 USB ports, as well as headset and microphone jacks located adjacent to the power button. Lenovo also installed dust guards on the front panel. At the back, there are an additional 4 USB 2.0 ports, a USB-C port, 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, 6 audio jacks, and an Ethernet port.

For those curious about the components inside, the casing features a removable transparent side cover that can be opened by unscrewing 4 bolts using a Phillips screwdriver. This facilitates users who wish to swap out components inside. Lenovo provides 4 DDR4 RAM slots, 2 M.2 SSD slots, and 2 slots for storage drives.

The Legion Tower 7i is equipped with a 650-watt power supply and utilizes sixth-generation Wi-Fi for connectivity. To maintain stable temperatures inside the casing, Lenovo has installed 1 fan at the back and 3 fans at the front.

Although it doesn’t come with RGB lighting like the Legion 7i laptop variants, Lenovo includes LEDs that can be adjusted in brightness through the UEFI BIOS.

2. Game Testing, Still Worth it in 2024?

For Windows computers, we conduct gaming tests both synthetically and in real-world environments. Synthetic tests include two DirectX 12 gaming simulations from 3DMark UL, namely Night Raid (suitable for systems with IGP due to its simplicity) and Time Spy (more demanding, ideal for gaming rigs with discrete GPUs). Additionally, we also involve the cross-platform GPU benchmark GFXBench 5 to measure OpenGL performance.

On the other hand, our real-world gaming testing is based on in-game benchmarks from F1 2021, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and Rainbow Six Siege, representing the racing simulation, open-world adventure action, and competitive/esport shooter genres, respectively.

Valhalla and Siege are tested at both 1080p and 4K resolutions (at Ultra quality settings in each game), while F1 2021 is only tested at 4K resolution, with Ultra High quality settings and Nvidia’s flagship DLSS anti-aliasing enabled for GeForce RTX systems.

Although the Legion’s RTX 4080 doesn’t match up to the RTX 4090, its performance remains outstanding at 4K resolution, making the justification for the need of an RTX 4090 increasingly difficult to understand.

Beyond these graphical parameters, Legion’s numbers are slightly better than what I found when reviewing CLX Hathor. However, it’s important to remember that the Legion Tower 7i faces tough competition, considering its higher price for a more powerful system.

3. What’s the Verdict on the Lenovo Legion Tower i7?

With an initial price of around Rp40 million, I have to admit that my expectations for the Lenovo Legion Tower 7i may have been too high.

Its storage capacity of only 512GB feels too small, especially considering that only a few AAA games can be stored on it. For those who frequently record gameplay, this storage will quickly fill up and require careful management.

Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that the Legion Tower 7i has several merits worth appreciating. The ease of upgrading storage capacity, increasing RAM, or even disassembling and replacing entire components provides a significant level of flexibility for users.
